How to Prepare Scrapbook Pages

What’s the difference of a scrapbook and a photo album? Both are used to contain pictures but a scrapbook may include more things aside from pictures. Scrapbooks are used to hold keepsakes and mementos. Preparing a scrapbook is like telling a story of a special occasion.  Decide on pictures, embellishments and other details that must go together in scrapbook pages.

12”x12” and 8.5” x 11” sizes of scrapbooks are the most commonly found in the stores. Scrapbook pages and sheet protectors that will fit these two sizes are also easier to find. But for those who would need either a smaller or bigger scrapbook, there are other sizes available at specialty scrapbook stores. For those who want a totally unique scrapbook, check out if there is a specialty scrapbook store near you. Comparing the two sizes, the 8.5” x 11” sheets are more economical to use. Aside from the fact that is smaller, there are more sheet protectors and scrapbook pages available for this size. The only disadvantage of 8.5” x 11” size is that fewer pictures may be included in the scrapbook. 12”x12” size scrapbook is becoming more in demand because more scrapbook hobbyist prefers sizes that would allow more space for pictures and decors. This one is more expensive though because a special sheet protector will be needed for this type. But if you want more decorative background sheets to choose from then the 12”x12” is right for you.

Once a new scrapbook hobbyist settles for the size, the next thing to consider is the type. Choices are ring-type, post bound with top-loading pages and scrapbooks with non removable pages. Ring-type scrapbooks are easy to use and you could easily apply protective sheet covers for this type. Adding additional pages is also easy. The disadvantage of using a ring-type scrapbook is scrapbooks pages would not appear very attractive since two pages would have a space in between. When using the type with non removable scrapbook pages, since it says pages cannot be detached, the disadvantage is quite obvious. The number is very limited and it is not possible to add and rearrange compiled sheets. It will also be difficult to add protective covers to each sheet. The best choice would be the post bound with top-loading pages. Once you’re done preparing the scrapbook, pages would appear seamless. More pages can be added by just removing the screws and placing them back again.

After choosing the type of binder or scrapbook and the type of pages, proceed to building the scrapbook. Consider the theme, layout and color coordination that will help you achieve your scrapbook’s concept. Choose pictures that are related. Every work must have a focal point so do not crowd your scrapbook with too much pictures. Include pictures that will bring out the best in your scrapbook and those that will highlight the message that you want to deliver out of your work. Imagine first how your scrapbook pages would look like before attaching the pictures and decoration. When preparing them on your own instead of using a template, it is best to use a primary photograph as your reference. Choose shades relevant to the color of your main picture.
